The undergraduate internship (NUT 4900) is very unique to Appalachian State's undergraduate curriculum, and helped me to implement the ideas I learned in class and further prepared me for a career in the field. This undergraduate internship consisted of supervised practice in the areas of clinical (200 hours), food service (100 hours), and community (100 hours). It was my responsibility to take leadership and plan my own internship by contacting facilities, and writing proposals. I completed my clinical hours at Broughton Psychiatric Hospital in Morganton, NC, my food service hours at WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh, NC, and my community hours at The Cedars of Chapel Hill in Chapel Hill, NC. I was under the supervision of each facility's registered dietitians. This was an extra step in helping me become competent as a professional in the field of nutrition: dietetics.
