Volunteer Work
Always wanting to try new things, there was never a better way to gain experience than by volunteering. I see volunteer work as a way to get your foot in the door

FARM (Feeding All Regardless of Means) Cafe
During my Spring 2013 semester at Appalachian State, I volunteers about five hours a week at FARM Cafe. This consisted of preparing, cooking, and serving dishes to other of lesser means. The restaurant is open to the public, but runs entirely on donations.
I did everything I possibly could to help out the chef and sous chef (see resume for specifics). Click on the Relais & Châteaux logo to check out Westglow Resort and Spa, as well as the restaurant I worked in, Rowland's.

Senior Center Work
I volunteered the the local senior center and talked to the residents and visitors about ways to incorporate more seasonal fruit and vegetables into their diets.

Appalachian Student Dietetic Association work

I have been involved with several volunteer events through ASDA ranging from being a marathon supporter to being a representative of the nutrition program to incoming freshmen.

Sports Dietitian Assistant
This was one of my first true experiences in the nutrition field. It really opened my eyes to how the dietitian interacts with other facility members within the university.

Job Shadowing at Duke Diet and Fitness Center
Doing this helped me to explore different careers within the health and wellness field. I shadowed a dietitian as well as an exercise physiologist. This experience was one that reiterated my liking for nutrition and fitness.
