Research
High Fructose Corn Syrup and Obesity
​
As a junior, I did an extensive, semester long research paper and presentation on the relationship between high fructose corn syrup and obesity. This is a topic that I, as a nutrition enthusiast, am passionate about.

Breast Cancer and Folate


As a senior, I did another semester long research synthesis. This time I chose to write about the micronutrient, folate, and its relationship to breast cancer. At the time of my research, this was a controversial topic in the nutrition world.​

Folic Acid Ambassador
It was through the Appalachian Student Dietetic Association (ASDA) that I became a folic acid ambassador. I presented to over 100 high school aged kids about the importance of folic acid and of the side effects of being deficient. I made an interactive presentation to target the students, and answered any questions they had.This program helped my leadership and communication skills.

Fizz Finders
Fizz Finders is a group that I, along with two other nutrition majors made up to target children. We put together an interactive presentation talking about healthy alternative to high fructose containing drinks. We had games and hand-on stations to implement the ideas we talked about. We made this presentation to the after school program at the local Wellness center.

Feastival
The Feastival is a project that happened on April 27, 2013. It will consisted of securing a location in Boone, NC, and planning healthy events to target families. I was the leader of promotions for the event. I made several thousand flyers to deliver to local elementary schools and made phone calls/ created emails in order to contact local radio station, magazines, newspapers, and farmers.

Zumba Party
I created and will host a Zumba Party on January 11, 2014. All the proceeds will go to Make-A-Wish.
